If you have a matter that requires law enforcement action OR need to file a Traffic Crash Report, please contact a law enforcement agency in your area or the nearest MSP Post. The Traffic Crash Reporting Unit is responsible for the complete, accurate and timely collection, processing, and compilations of statewide traffic crash data.
By law, all law enforcement agencies are required to submit qualifying crash reports UD to the MSP. The Unit receives and processes approximately , crashes annually.
The data collected from the crash reports is used extensively by federal, state, and local traffic safety partners to identify traffic safety problems and support the state's efforts to reduce crashes, fatalities, and injuries.
It can take 3 - 30 days following the crash for the report to be processed into the TCPS database and made available online for purchase. This reports provides detailed information concerning traffic fatalities and injuries, as well as arrest activities that are part of ongoing efforts to reduce drunk driving in Michigan.
Traffic Crash Advisories are developed as a means of keeping Law Enforcement Officials updated with changes to the UD and also to offer guidance with some of the more problematic areas of traffic crash reporting. Mi-CAT can be used to query crash locations, view crash dashboards, create visualizations and charts, and search UD images. As of December 13, there have been a total of 1, traffic deaths.
